That ashy sunflower wants your attention in a big way! For meadow maintenance this month, we mostly pulled up morning glory vines, cut back other aggressive stuff (looking at you #frogfruit), and positioned our Louisiana Native Plant certification sign. The 5-7pm time was perfect, with the meadow mostly in shade, despite the ungodly heat index. And check out the Virginian tiger moth that I disturbed while pulling up morning glory vines. Its caterpillar form is the yellow wooly bear. The meadow is a small oasis even though the street can be busy, an island of biodiversity amidst blocks of asphalt and grass.
